At the edge of the sea, where the fjord opens and the light changes with the wind, stands Grandpa John’s Seaside Cabin — named in honour of John Grov (1909–1991).
Born on Atløy, John was a painter, photographer and storyteller of the Norwegian coast. The sea, the islands and the people who lived from them shaped both his life and his work.
Through his brush and camera, he documented a coastal world in transition: boathouses along the shore, fishing boats returning from sea, farms facing the weather and landscapes marked by generations of life along the fjord.
He carried the stories of his family and the coast with him, including the old tradition of Atle Jarl, and passed them on to those who came after.
Grandpa John’s Seaside Cabin is therefore more than a place to stay. It is a quiet tribute to a man, a landscape and a coastal way of life worth remembering.
From here, guests encounter the same elements that inspired him throughout his life — the sea, the changing light, the wind and the horizon.
