Oslo → KYN
Royal landmarks, art, a possible Viking exhibition, the Sognefjord region, Fjærland's glacier museum, Astrup's Jølster and the coast.
Explore the Oslo route
From Oslo or Bergen to a seaside stay at KYN—then onward through fjords, mountains and historic towns.
Begin in Oslo or Bergen, follow the fjords towards Sunnfjord, and stay by the sea at KYN. If you continue north, Loen, Ålesund, Geiranger and Trondheim open up a second chapter. Choose the places that appeal to you: these are flexible ideas, not a rigid itinerary.
Royal landmarks, art, a possible Viking exhibition, the Sognefjord region, Fjærland's glacier museum, Astrup's Jølster and the coast.
Explore the Oslo routeHistoric Bryggen, panoramic mountain views, a science centre for families, then the road north via Førde to Stavang.
Explore the Bergen routeIn Oslo, explore Karl Johans gate, the Royal Palace and Nationaltheatret, or make more time for the National Museum and Vigeland Sculpture Park. The former National Gallery's collections are presented at the National Museum. The Viking Ship Museum is closed during the construction of the new Museum of the Viking Age: check the Historical Museum as an alternative.
For the drive, plan via Lærdal and Sogndal into Fjærland, then towards Skei, Jølster and Førde before the final stretch to Stavang. Do not treat every stop as achievable in one travel day. Route choice, ferries, driving duration and seasonal road conditions must be checked for your actual date.
Before setting off, discover Bryggen, take the Fløibanen funicular or Ulriken cable car, or visit VilVite with children. Continue north towards Førde via the E39 and the Oppedal–Lavik ferry, then use your navigation to KYN by the Sea, Stavangvegen 34, 6944 Stavang.
Fjærland is an attractive extension if you have extra days, not an unavoidable stop on the direct Bergen–KYN route.
Explore glaciers and climate through exhibits; combine with a viewpoint visit to Bøyabreen where conditions and visitor guidance allow. Stay away from glacier ice and avalanche-prone areas unless joining a qualified, suitable excursion.
Museum visitor informationThe home of Nikolai and Engel Astrup offers a setting for art and landscape. Check seasonal opening days and guided-tour arrangements before travelling.

Check current openingFour private seaside houses in Stavang, with the coast as your starting point. Set aside a day for fishing, another for local discoveries—or no itinerary at all.
The houses have equipped kitchens, private bathrooms, Wi-Fi and washing machines. Boat hire is an optional booking extra, subject to availability and terms. KYN is accommodation, not a guided road-trip operator.

Stop in Loen for the Loen Skylift and, if you wish to stay there, Hotel Alexandra. The hotel states that its swimming pools and spa are reserved for its overnight guests. Continue to Ålesund for its distinctive townscape and Atlanterhavsparken aquarium and marine science centre.
Loen Skylift · AtlanterhavsparkenAfter Ålesund, Geiranger is a scenic detour, not simply the shortest onward route. One approach uses the Eidsdal–Linge ferry. Mountain-road closures can require a different route; road sections, including Trollstigen, may close; check the latest official traffic notices before choosing your onward route. Continue towards Trondheim on the route appropriate to your travel date, then explore Nidaros Cathedral, Gamle Bybro and Bakklandet.
